POST-RELEASE
On April 4-5, 2019, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Innovations in the Field of Natural Sciences as the Basis for Export-Oriented Industrialization of Kazakhstan" was held in Almaty. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, and the National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The conference was attended by approximately 200 people from Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Iran, Switzerland, Germany, and the UAE.
Opening the conference, Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee, General Director of the National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician A.A. Zharmenov said:
Today we celebrate a double anniversary: the 10th and 25th anniversaries of the founding of the Kazakhstan Academy of Natural Sciences and the National Center for Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan, respectively.
This conference can be considered a reporting one, as it is dedicated to discussing the achievements of modern research in the fields of natural sciences, complex processing of mineral raw materials, and innovative developments in the manufacturing sector, including the results of the activities of KazNAEN and the RSE "NCCPMS RK," aimed at implementing the Elbasy's Address "Increasing the Welfare of Kazakhstanis: Increasing Incomes and Quality of Life" and fulfilling the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Each of the anniversaries has many achievements to their credit, deserving the attention and respect of the scientific community and industry. These include the following documents proposed by the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences: the Concept of the "Sustainable Energy Strategy for the Future of Kazakhstan until 2050," adopted for implementation at the state level; the rationale for the construction of the Eurasia Canal, connecting the Caspian and Black Seas with a projected cargo flow of 120 million tons per year by 2050 during the implementation of the "Silk Road through the Eurasia Canal" project; the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the Commercialization of the Results of Scientific and (or) Scientific and Technical Activities," which was put into effect; and recommendations for scientific support for the Development Strategy of Kazakhstan until 2050. These include dozens of industrial facilities launched on various continents based on the developments of the National Center for Complex Management of Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including those producing a tenth of the world's primary lead and every third ton of Kazakhstan's gold.
The synergy between the two organizations is a good example of a scientific tandem working to develop integration processes between science and business, increasing the effectiveness of the implementation of innovative technologies, both within the country and internationally.
This is confirmed by the successful initiation of a joint project by the Kazakhstan Academy of Natural Sciences entitled "Development of World-Class Technologies for the Involvement of Low-Quality (High-Phosphorus Brown Iron Ore) and Man-Made Raw Materials in Processing, Ensuring Increased Competitiveness of Steel Production, and Their Commercialization" for the 2017 State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Science and Technology. A team of authors, consisting of KazNAEN academicians and NCCPMS scientists, was nominated for the award. The Republic of Kazakhstan and industrial sector specialists were awarded the coveted prize, the highest scientific honor.
A.A. Zharmenov thanked his partners and colleagues who, throughout the organization's existence, provided support, helping to test the developments on an industrial scale, as without this, it would have been impossible to implement the technologies in production.
Kanat Baitov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Industrial Development and Industrial Safety, delivered a welcoming address on behalf of Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Roman Sklyar.
He noted that the technologies developed by scientists at the RSE "NCCPMS RK" contribute to the promotion of Kazakhstan's image on the global stage. This includes osmium concentrate processing technology to produce the purest isotope, osmium-187, which has placed our country among the top three in stable isotope production. The KIVCET technology for processing low-quality lead-containing raw materials, which accounts for a tenth of the world's primary lead production on various continents. The "Kazakhstan" alloy production technology for deoxidizing and modifying steel, patented in many countries, is being implemented in collaboration with global metallurgy giants Thyssen Krupp AG and POSCO. Unique gold-bearing raw material processing technologies ensure that every third ton of this precious metal is produced in the republic.
The results obtained undoubtedly contribute to the growth of the well-being of Kazakhstanis and the strengthening of the state.
The ceremonial meeting concluded with an award ceremony for outstanding scientists and specialists of KazNAEN and the National Center for Complex Management of Natural Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan with awards from the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences.
