On April 15, 2026, the regular meeting of the Scientific Seminar on Natural Sciences, Mining, Raw Material Processing, and Metallurgy was held under the Academic Council of the National Center on Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the seminar, scientists discussed the processing of chrysotile-asbestos man-made raw materials and the development of systemic geophysical monitoring for the safe operation of water management facilities.
Anar Mukhametzhanova, Senior Researcher at the Rare Metals Laboratory of the NC CPMRM RK, noted in her report that, through collaboration with Kostanay Minerals JSC, a comprehensive technology for processing chrysotile-asbestos waste and the equipment for its implementation have been developed. The technology was implemented thanks to a successful commercialization project supported by the Science Foundation JSC. The resulting product, bischofite, is used for Kostanay Minerals JSC's internal needs. At the same time, it is a raw material for producing a purer magnesium compound, carnallite. The Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant requires carnallite for magnesium production. The company currently purchases carnallite abroad.
The NC CPMRM RK has conducted research to study and evaluate the potential for the practical application of geophysical methods for systemic monitoring studies of the safe operation of water management facilities. Kambar Asemov, the project's principal investigator and a doctoral student at KazNITU named after K.I. Satpayev, informed the seminar participants that a systemic geophysical monitoring methodology for the safe operation of earth dams has been developed and tested. The work continues in close collaboration with organizations responsible for the operation of hydraulic structures in the Almaty region.
These topical issues generated keen interest among the audience. In their presentations, seminar participants noted that the work is focused on solving real-world applied problems and demonstrates a genuine connection between science and production, which is precisely what the state demands from science today.
