A new production facility for the production of silicon-carbon composite has been launched in Almaty. The project, as emphasized in the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Construction, is unique in the use of renewable plant raw materials and the approaches of the authors to its processing. The plant uses secondary resources – rice processing waste.
"The creation of the production was preceded by a long stage of scientific research. In 2004, the National Center on Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NC CPMRM RK) formed an independent scientific direction for the disposal of rice husks. During this period, more than 15 patents have been obtained for inventions in the field of processing high – tonnage waste and the use of silicon-carbon products in various fields of industry and agriculture," the ministry said.
The NC CPMRM RK plans to produce up to 1,500 tons of silicocarbon per year.
"The silicon carbon composite has a wide range of applications. The creators of the products rely on the production of rubber products. The silica-carbon material as a filler provides an increase in the rigidity and hardness of rubbers. It is in this industry sector that scientists plan to occupy their niche," the Ministry of Industry explained.
